PSA Final Peacehaven

For this project we had to create a PSA for Peacehaven in North Carolina.  Peacehaven is a local farm that is home to adults with special needs.  On November 5th we went out as a class to shoot b-roll and interviews at Peacehaven.  We had the choice of doing a PSA about the fiber arts program or the honor cards.

We worked with partners to create the video and edit together.  My partner and I chose to include a lot of b-roll to help illustrate the fiber arts program.  We put in interviews from the head of Peacehaven and the woman who is in charge of the fiber arts program.  Having these interviews helped because it gave a more professional view of the programs.  It was difficult to edit the b-roll together and figure out what shots to put where.  I enjoyed this project and I liked going out to Peacehaven and seeing what they are doing with their program.

Hopper Painting Final

For this project we were asked to select 10 different images from and Edward Hopper painting and tell a story about them.  I liked this project a lot, I liked figuring out a story to tell and finding pictures that went along with it.

I definitely underestimated the amount of time this project would take.  Cropping each image to fit the right dimensions and importing them into Premiere took a lot of time but once I got the hang of a lot of the short cuts on the keyboard it made the process go a lot quicker.  I liked looking for music and sound effects that would make my story better.

NPR Final

For this project we had to interview someone about a certain topic.  I chose the assistant women’s lacrosse coach Brittany Dipper.  I focused on what her time was like playing at Maryland and what she plans to bring to Elon.  I found this assignment challenging because Coach Dipper said “um” a lot and it took a lot of editing to try to cut most of them out.

I used a zoom recorder for this project and I used Premiere and Photoshop to complete this interview.  It definitely helped a lot knowing the short cuts on the keyboard for Premiere especially.  It makes the process go much quicker.  I created a cover slide for the interview and I included several pictures throughout the interview that helped share the story of our interview.   I met with Coach Dipper and recorded my opening remarks and then went into the interview with her.  She gave a lot of good information and it was very interesting to listen to her story about becoming a national champion.

Kindness Poem

For this project we had to edit and add in effects and music in Premiere.  I found this a little challenging because it was difficult to figure out what levels sounded right and at what numbers.  It was also difficult to find background music that would be soft enough to not drown out the poem.  I did like this project, it taught me a lot about short cuts in Premiere and how they help tremendously especially in a time consuming project like this.

For this assignment, we had to go out at night at take pictures outside.  We could not use the flash at all.  For my camera I used a Canon EOS Rebel.  I found this project really challenging because it was hard to find light.  I also attempted one of the light pictures which did not turn out as good as the example from class.  I went around to different places that had a good amount of natural light already with them.

Comic Strip

The picture I chose to duplicate is called “Couple.”  I broke the picture up into three different pictures including the woman, the man, and the couple together.  I used some tools in Photoshop like masking, creating new layers, and using the text tool.

Photoshop Tutorial

This video will help you learn how to manipulate and customize text in Photoshop.  Some of the effects that are taught can make your text look 3D.  He goes step by step and talks out what he is doing so it is easy to follow along.

Inspirational Photos

Along with our own 5 street pictures, we had to find 5 pictures that inspired us as well.

1. imgres-1 I like this picture because to me it shows the kind of child he is.  He looks a little sad and down by the look on his face. I like how it is up close and personal.

images-1This picture stood out to me because of how well it depicts the story going on in someones life.  Just from looking at this picture you could probably think of a bunch of different things about this woman.

imagesI love this picture because it just shows what kind of person she is.  She does not like to be bothered or could just be annoyed that someone is so close to her with a camera.  I like how up close the photographer got to her to see how she would react.

imgresThis picture is simple.  I like how it just makes him out to be a regular guy walking around.  He looks to be just going out walking and I like how he does not have much of a facial expression.

imgres-2At first I did not like this picture but the more I looked at it the more it started to grow on me.  She looks stunned that someone is in her face with a camera and I like that she is caught off guard so she does not have time to properly act and try to look good for the camera.

For this project we had to take 5 different Street pictures.  I went around campus and tried to find people who were going about their normal daily lives.  I used a Canon EOS Rebel SL1 camera.  It was a little tough taking pictures of people who I did not know and trying to capture them going about their day.

Camera used: Canon EOS Rebel SL1.

For this project we had to take 5 different portraits of 5 different people and work with lighting.  I tried to get different personalities and different poses in each picture.  I struggled sometimes with figuring out the amount of light to let into the camera.
